Lower the temperature settings for heating to 68 degrees F. Every degree you lower the temperature in your home, you can save on your energy bill. So, if you normally keep your thermostat set to 72 degrees F, try lowering it to 68 degrees F.

    Consult your heating/cooling system's operating manual for instructions on how to reprogram the programmable thermostat's threshold temperature to 68° F.
